Concept. Event Design. Art Direction.
Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac presence at Macworld 2009. Second straight year doing this for Microsoft, and the last year that Apple was involved with the event. Concepted and designed 50'x50' main presentation/demo booth plus secondary lounge.
While the main presentation booth was very similar to the 2008 version due to budgetary constraints, the lounge needed to be designed to be less comfortable and more transitory than the prior version we did, as people were literally fighting over seats and camping out too long.
Also designed product brochure and other printed collateral, features overview video, staff apparel, etc., etc.
“I've been sitting here in my cube, trying to think of a hundred different ways I could smartly convey how talented Erik is. But truth be told, nothing I could write in the next 15-20 minutes would be as good as the simple truth: Erik is outstanding at what he does.
And what he does is more than providing art direction or designing streamlined concepts. Erik is a visionary, really; relying on all his years of experience to cut through the BS and deliver work that's truly innovative and refreshing to his team and his clients.
Two years in a row, I had the pleasure of working with Erik on the Microsoft for Mac Business Unit account. Not only were they major creative assignments - building a presence for our client at the Macworld Expo - they were highly visible ones. To this day, I can't think of one single time when working with Erik proved stressful or trying. He was patient. Thoughtful. Intentional. Willing to work late hours and weekends, and when the occasion called for it, willing to start from scratch. As a younger, less experienced writer, there were numerous occasions where I considered Erik a "mentor" of sorts, even though he's a designer/art director, not a writer. And to me, that further exemplifies his extraordinary skill. It's just one more reason why he's so dang good.
Any company or agency would be remarkably lucky to have Erik Helmer on their team. Enough said.”
